On the way to school this morning, we heard the "exercise" siren. Because Roby hasn't been involved in an exercise since we were stationed in Germany, I had to explain to the kids that an exercise was just practicing to make sure everyone does their job correctly. We talked about it a little more, then when Ethan went his way to school Natalie said:
"Mom, when I grow up I want to have the same job Daddy has. Then I can work on the same airplane he does and make lots of friends. But if I don't make friends, I'll have to stop working there and find a different job."
So matter of fact about it all! I love that she, like Ethan did, wants to work with Roby. And to put her own girlie spin on it by adding that she has to have friends to work somewhere...oh my. Teenage years are going to be fun! I did explain to her that you don't get a job to make friends. That you have a job to make money so you can live, and hopefully you enjoy that job!
After I left her at her door to go in the building, I noticed that the second graders were waiting in their lines outside. (I think the first grade teachers decided to let the kids come in every day because they didn't want to wait outside in the cold!!) Anyway, at the beginning of the year, there were several parents waiting with their second graders. Today? Not a single one. I'm not ready to let Ethan and Natalie walk to school by themselves! They can't grow up!!!
