I know this isn't news to anyone, but its something I want to record. I really wanted to kids to watch the inauguration, and was a little disappointed that they'd be in school when it was going on. To top it off, I had the housing maintenance people at our house at that time to fix our heater (that wasn't working again), the drain in the basement (that was backing up again), and the back door that blew open last night and broke in all kinds of places.
I was very happy to learn, when I picked Natalie up, that they watched it in class! She told me that it was fun to watch and that "the new president said the same thing that Ablaham Lincoln did a long time ago!" She also told me about, "a girl that went to a all white school. She was the only one and people were standing out there yelling at her! But she was brave and went anyway!"
When we met up with Ethan, he too told me that they watched the inauguration. I asked him what he thought of it, he told me it was cool, he liked seeing the new president and vice president and hearing the songs.
Their principal decided that the whole school should watch it, do activities pertaining to it and talk about it most of the morning.
Just a little while ago, after getting some homework done, I watched it online. If you haven't seen it, here is the first part from YouTube (it was the easiest thing to embed). Or you can watch the whole thing here (the video quality doesn't seem to be as good). To say the least, he is a great speaker!

Q-tip watched the whole thing at school as well. I am ashamed to say that he saw a lot more than I did and even J. I saw the swearing in, J saw the parade and Q-tip saw it all. He also talked about it at school and even brought home an inauguration color book. I am glad he knows so much about what is happening. Kudos to the school system for making a point over something memorable.
