Last weekend I took Maggie to her first Pug Play Date. There is an Omaha Pug Club that I've been part of for a while now, but have never taken her to their meet-ups because they are so far away. Natalie spent the night at a friends, and I figured Ethan could either go along or just hang at home while Roby was sleeping (he chose to stay home). Maggie really needs to be around other dogs closer to her size! Its so intimidating for her when we go to the dog park close to us. Most of the dogs there are closer to Max's' size, so tower over her. For the most part she does fine, but its also a good idea to let her relax with smaller dogs too! It was still a 25 minute drive to the one I decided to go to (some of the other places they go are an additional 10-20 minute drive from here). But I think it was well worth it! She was a little nervous at first, because five/ten dogs ran up to her and were sniffing her all at once, but she settled down as soon as another dog showed up and they were off sniffing that dog!
There was one other breed of dog there. He was rescued from a puppy mill, so the person was trying to introduce him to other dogs in a friendly environment. And what better way to do it than with a bunch of happy pugs?!?!
There were about 15-20 pugs and their "people" at that meet-up. I guess there are often closer to 50!!!
To me, this was a whole lot of pugs!!! Maggie quickly made friends with EVERYONE there! I think everyone picked her up and loved her a bit!!! She was the smallest pug there! There were some that I swear were close to 40 lbs! Very overweight and looked like they had a hard time breathing! At one point, I mentioned that Maggie doesn't snore. Someone said, "Oh, she must have a really good palate!" I think she does, but I also think that I limit what she eats so she doesn't get overweight (which pugs easily do), and I don't give her any people food!
On the way home, I was driving down a hill coming home in our little "gets me to school" car. And, well, I got pulled over for speeding for the first time ever. Yup, EVER. I got pulled over once back in Germany for not making a complete stop (on a Sunday morning when there was NO ONE else on the roads anywhere!), but that's it! The cop asked me if I knew why I was being pulled over. I said, "Yes sir, I was going way too fast. I didn't realize it until I was half-way down the hill." He kind of chuckled and said, "Yup, but I don't like to give military members and their families tickets if I don't have to, so I'm going to let you go. Just try to watch your speed. Have a good weekend!" That was that, and I was very happy to not get a ticket!!!

I have my Dental Hygiene orientation tonight. Roby was supposed to go with me. I was all excited that he didn't have to go on a trip last weekend, because he would be able to go for sure! That was until he got a call yesterday morning. They told him that he needed to pack his bags because the jet he works on needs some parts, and he's the guy to take the parts to it. He's on his way now, and wont be back for a few days. I'm a big girl and can handle going alone, its just nice to have someone there supporting you.
My "Big Sister" called me last night. She's been in the program for a year already (I think...I'm not really sure). She scared me a bit with stories of how hard it is and how much more money its going to cost than just student loans. She said that her and her husband got out a rather large personal loan to help pay for living expenses as well as some of the costs of school. UGH I guess I'll learn more about it all tonight!
And it begins!
I have 2 1/2 days left of my summer break. I think the kids and I are going to go see "UP" in a little bit, then do some errands before I finish painting the trim in Nat's room. (There is some touch up work that needs to be done after using the crow bar last weekend...) Tomorrow I'm going to try really hard to get the kids' rooms set up so I can get the rest of the house presentable for the BBQ next weekend on Sunday!!! Always busy!!!

The play date sounds fun, something I would totally do if I had a dog.
Glad you didn't get a ticket. I'm impressed you've never had one. Good job girl.
