Green Thumb(s)

A couple weeks ago while Ethan and I were at a hardware store, I let him pick out one plant. He'd been begging and begging me to get some kind of plant. He really wanted another flower garden, but I didn't have the time or energy to think about it at that point. I figured that a single plant, that we could put in a pot, would satisfy him for a while! To my surprise, he chose a fuchsia! So pretty!

A proud plant owner!

Pretty fuchsia!

The kids helped me pot it a couple days later (after I finally learned a little about fuchsias--that they need to be brought indoors here because it gets so cold--and found a cheap pot!).

Happy kids, and Max!

I couldn't help posting both pics!

I wasn't going to plant a flower garden...then I got a housewarming gift from Grandma and Grandpa M!

It took us a couple weeks to figure out where to plant them, and I got some lilies to plant as well (I love lilies!), so I hope they will still grow!

Natalie helping to get rid of the grass in the area by the back deck that we figured would be a good spot.

Ethan did a good job too!

Such good workers!

They even held the worms I found (and picked up--with gloves on) when I was digging deeper to soften the ground!

Brave Natalie!

Ethan messed around with his much longer than she did! ;-)

She got freaked out and dropped (threw) it!

Planting a lily bulb.

Ethan planting a begonia.

All done! Now to wait for them to grow!

Oops! Forgot about the most important thing!

Mr. Frog!

And Mr. Gnome!

The kids were very interested in the Gnome! Asking me why people used them, and if they thought they kept gardens safe! I said that I got him while we were in Germany because I thought he was cute!

Before we went inside, we still had two things to plant. When we were looking for a house plant/tree, Ethan kept asking me if he could use his allowance to buy Natalie her own plant. Instead of letting him do that (which was very very sweet!), I got her a fuchsia too!

Ethan helping to fill her pot.

Nat getting dirt from the bag.

Another pretty fuchsia!

Two kids, two pretty flower plants...

...two silly faces!

And the last thing to be planted was the spider plant "babies" that her teacher gave her from one of the plants in her classroom.

Getting ready to get the soil a little wet.

Doing a fabulous job planing her "babies" all by herself!!!

So proud!

They did such a great job, and because it was sooo hot (82 degrees and humid), they got to have popsicles before lunch!

The dogs had ice in their water...I don't think they were as happy about that as the kids were about the popsicles! ;-)

We did planted all but Ethan's plant on Thursday, and even with SPF 70, my shoulders are still killing me from the sunburn I got! I guess that's what I get for staying out of the sun for so many years! ;-)

You've got some cute little gardeners there, perfect for a veggie garden. I think they would do all the work and you could just enjoy the reward of all the produce. Just something to think about...maybe a pot or two to start?

The fushias are very pretty and I look forward to pictures of the bulbs you planted. I am rather impressed by Nat's planting skills, she did AWESOME.
