All "Fixed"

Last Wednesday I took Maggie in to get "fixed." Yesterday she turned eight months old, so she's a little older than I would have liked, but she hadn't gone into heat yet, so it worked out well. I took her to an animal shelter that's about 45 minutes away as they request $25. They are more interested in getting the job done so there aren't unwanted dogs. Their main goals are shutting down puppy mills and helping families get their pets fixed. I dropped her off at 8 am, then hung out in Nebraska City (doing homework) until 3. My heart broke when I walked in to get her from the "recovery area." She was covered by a heated blanket, eyes half closed...but when she heard me she still tried to get up and her tail was still wagging. There is something so pure about the love from a dog! :-) I had to take a few pictures of her on the drive home. She was pretty out of it for several hours as her surgery wasn't until 1:15 or so.

She tried really hard to sit in my lap, but I finally got her to relax in her crate all covered up with towels.

Checking to see if I was still there.

Squishy face.

Sound asleep...

I know tons of pictures of a sleeping dog aren't interesting, but she looked so peaceful, and I was worried about her...

For some reason she had a bit of blood in her urine for two days after the surgery. I'm not sure why. I did call the doctor that did the surgery and he said to keep an eye on it; that if it got worse or did not get better soon to bring her back in. As of now she seems fine! She has some metal stitches that I need to take out on Saturday. I think the metal is odd, but they said its one of the best ways they found to keep the dogs from licking the area. They also pulled six of her baby teeth that did not fall out when her adult teeth came in. I'm extremely thankful for the service they provided...anything around here would have cost almost ten times that much! I did give them a bit more than the requested amount, I wish I could have done more to help out the other 250+ dogs they have (mostly from puppy mills they have closed)...someday I can do more!
