The other morning I found the compost bin all chewed up and..."dirty." We may have to find an alternative place to put it if it happens again...
I'm not 100% positive, especially because of the color, but that "mess" was not on the bin before. I'm assuming its from whatever rodent was trying to get in.
To say the least, I scoured the lid of the bin. I haven't seen any more foot prints or nibbling in the last few days, but I wonder how it will be with the weather not getting over 30 degrees. If anyone knows how I can deter rodents, please let me know! Otherwise we might have to put it in the garage (where I'm pretty sure there is a mouse!!! Double EWWWWWW!!!). I'm not a fan of military housing right now. :-(

Those are rodent foot prints? How big are they? Maybe a opposum? A raccoon? Okay the raccoon is a little cute but all others would totally freak me out! Godo luck with that you may have just convinced me not to have a compost at all. What the hell will I encounter in Vegas?!
Yes, one downfall of a compost bin is the rodents that they attract. One way to deter them is to spray the bin with a water, white vinegar solution that has a liquid hot pepper flavering added. I found this to deter dogs from peeing on my bushes in WW. :) The only downfall is that it will wash off when it rains.
Hugs!
