Last weekend Roby and I went on a trip to Pittsburgh for our friends wedding. We left the kids with friends (one of which stayed at our house with Natalie and the dogs). It was a short trip, Friday to Monday, but I was a TAD excited to go!!! The weather the week before had been pretty rough as I said before, lots of wind, snow, and below zero temperatures. We had no delays and set off Friday before noon. Not long after we got in the air, I looked out the window and saw NOTHING but white. It was quite beautiful.
We had a layover in Milwaukee, and soon realized that our second flight was on a TINY jet. Yup, we even got to go outside to walk up some stairs to get on, it was that small!
We spent about 2 1/2 hours there; attempted to eat some nasty pizza, so got some cheese curd and pretzels instead.
Our first night there we went to Jerome Bettis' Bar/Grill for dinner with our friend, his wife and a bunch of their friends. We had most of Saturday to just hang out and explore. For breakfast (because the hotel didn't have anything), we were going to go to a Denny's. Just as we were getting out of the car, I saw a Pancake House just up the hill from it. I made Roby take me there instead! ;-)
After breakfast we headed to the mall because we heard there was an entire store devoted to the Steelers (Roby's favorite team). Oh yeah, he was a little excited!
After the mall, we were going to pick up a couple things at Walgreens that we forgot. As we pulled into the parking lot, Roby ran over a curb that he didn't see. We got out of the car, and the tire was obviously flat. Roby put the donut on it while I got a few things. As he was doing that, another person did the same, but they didn't get a flat. We spent about 2-2 1/2 hours getting the tire changed and taking it back to the airport to exchange it for another car. We still aren't sure what is going to happen with that...but hopefully it won't be too bad. By the time we were done, we had less than half an hour to get ready for the wedding. We had an awesome kid drive us to the wedding even though it was further than he was supposed to take us (he said taxis didn't come out to where we were often). He then gave us a number for "Mike" who would pick us up...whatever that meant.
We didn't stay all that long because it was a little awkward not knowing anyone besides the groom, but we had a lot of fun regardless. Not long before we left, I asked someone to take a picture of us.

Roby called "Mike," who turned out to be a driver of a car service. We had a pretty nice ride in a Lincoln for only $10!
I didn't realize until later that the picture was just our heads, and I wanted a full body pic! haha So, we took one at the hotel (with a little photoshop help). Don't laugh at it! ;-)

Sunday for lunch, we met back up with Jeff and his wife for lunch at Primanti Brothers. This place has been on tv several times, and Roby really wanted to go there while we were in Pittsburgh!!!
They then took us to a lookout spot so we could see all of Pittsburgh.
Roby enjoyed seeing Heinz Field!
Later that day, just Roby and I decided to go to the Andy Warhol museum. On the way there there were a few cool statues, this one was made of bridges.
The Andy Wharhol museum was interesting to say the least. It is seven stories high, you start at the top and work your way down. There were a lot of really cool paintings and other art pieces, and some that I wasn't so impressed with (the subject matter more so than the art itself).
When we came back out, there was steam coming out of the manholes. I couldn't resist a picture. I wanted another one...but cars pulled up before I could take it.
Our last night there, we went on a belated anniversary dinner. Jeff recommended we eat at Pasta Too. It was FABULOUS!!! The portions were HUGE and the food was great!!!
Even though I thought I was going to explode...I got this DELICOUS chocolate cake to go. I only ate a few bites later that night, but it was GOOD!!!
We got up bright and early Monday morning to head back to the airport and back home. Our flight ended up being only 20 minutes before Jeff and Krista's, so we sat with them while they ate breakfast! When we got back to Milwaukee, Fonda called me thinking that we would have a delayed flight because of the bad weather in Omaha. They had freezing rain. Nope...just several millimeters of ice covering our car when we got to it!
It was a great trip despite the stress of the flat tire on the rental and not knowing people at the wedding. I LOVED being somewhere with just Roby and not school stress!!!

I am so happy you went on this trip. It looks so fun and sounds totally awesome. You ate some great food, saw a different part of the country and made memories for just you two. Maybe one day...ha ha ha...J and I will attempt such a trip. I hope you are able to do something like this again.
