I'm not exactly sure how to feel right now. I'm just reminding myself over and over that they are dogs. And dogs have their own way of dealing with things.
As the kids and I were eating popcorn and hanging out the in the front room, we heard Max growling (in attack mode) and Maggie yelping. I ran in, opened the baby gate, and found Maggie finally running away from Max, still yelping loudly.
What I think happened was that Max was in his crate chewing on one of her tiny bones. As she seems to want everything he has, especially if its hers, she was trying to get it. And it was the last straw for him. So he flipped.
Max is NOT an aggressive dog! But, just as we can flip out if pushed too much, dogs can too.
As Ethan cleaned Maggie's "you scared the poo out of me" poo, and picked up the pieces of Maggie's bone, I tried to get her from hiding under the table. I wasn't sure if she was hurt or just scared, so I wrapped her in a towel for comfort and had Natalie hold onto her while I tried to figure out what happened. When I came back into where Nat was, she had a little bit of blood on her cheek. Ugh. I had her go wash it off and found that Maggie has two puncture wounds on the outside of her left ear, and three lacerations on the inside. One is tiny, another is 1/4 inch, and the big one is about 1/2 an inch.
I took her in the bathroom and put pressure on it with cotton balls. Then preceded to call Grandma Nan. Roby's not here, and honestly I was freaking out a bit. My main question was if it would be something I would have to take her to the Emergency Animal Clinic for. Luckily, she agreed that if I can keep it clean and get the bleeding to stop, we should be ok. After about ten minutes, it wasn't bleeding much. So we went to the store to get some hydrogen peroxide. Came home, cleaned it, and I found a way to kind of wrap it to keep some pressure on it for a while.

Cleaning her nose!
(All I can think of is Ethan pretending to be Stitch, trying to stick his tongue up his nose!)

I dont know what to say about this but hopefully it was a one time thing. That really sucks...
Looks like a good clean cut. It should be ok if you can keep Neosporin on it and keep her from scratching it. Hope the dogs are getting along better now.
Hugs! Mom
Poor baby!
Even dogs that usually get along well can have big freakouts over bones or food.
