Last Friday I went with Ethan on a field trip. All three fourth grades piled onto two school buses and headed down to Nebraska City. There, we visited the Lewis and Clark Center. This is a free museum that has a video, indoor exhibits, several trails, as well as a few outdoor "replicas." Seven parents from Ethan's class came along, so we each had three children in our groups. After we watched the video we were free to explore until lunch time.
Ethan being silly on the bus ride.
After the video (which was more interesting than I thought it would be!) we explored the lower level of the museum.
The boys ran most of the trails while I walked behind. By the time I got to the look out points or exhibits, they were ready to move on to the next. Here they are looking out over the Missouri River.
During the video, it was said that Meriwether Lewis died of possible self inflicted gunshot wounds. When we were at the river lookout, one of the boys was talking about Lewis and Clark. The other said, "Well, Lewis committed suicide...probably because he had a stressful life. I bet his job was hard and he didn't have very many friends." I had to suppress a laugh because he said it with such a matter-of-fact tone! I haven't talked to my kids about suicide, so it surprised me how nonchalant he was! I guess its part of life, and I should think about talking to them about it!
Inside the earth lodge. (They weren't very interested in it...and said over and over that it smelled funny!)
I took quite a few pictures...and will post the rest tomorrow!

Glad they were able to get out of the classroom and learn hands on. I always enjoyed field trips as a kid. I hope Q-tip has some neat ones when we move.
I'm glad to see that they get to go on field trips there. As you know they don't do any here which sucks! Oh yeah, pics are up!
