She is a ten month old black lab (mix)...and is the newest addition to our family. We had been talking for quite some time about getting another dog. With me starting school soon and then getting a full time job we were also a little worried about how Max would react being at home alone...more or less for the first time since we've had him. Tuesday evening we headed over to the Humane Society. We walked up and down the kennels looking to see what dogs they had. We were wanting a lab puppy because it would work best with Max and the kids. And what did we find in the last kennel we came to? Abby! Natalie put her hand up to the gate and it was licked immediately. After getting to meet her in a "getting acquainted" room and learning more about her (her owners dropped her off because they were "moving," she knows her name and "sit" really well, she wasn't house trained, very affectionate, etc) we decided that she was the right dog for us. I had to take Max in yesterday just to make sure that they got along--no serious fighting. Then she came home with me! There have been a few bouts of control between her and Max, but nothing too serious. They will play some, especially if they are outside. As of right now Max is extremely jealous and confused. I feel really bad, but I'm hoping in a few weeks they will be great friends! So far she is doing as well as can be expected in a new environment. She is already looking to me for praise and direction...which she really needs. She slept in her crate all night without an accident!!! This is a huge plus about getting an older puppy! Not to mention it feels kind of nice to be giving her a loving home! :-) Fingers crossed things continue to go well!!! Here are a few pictures...I'm sure there will be more to come!
Natalie wanted to take a picture to show her teacher because I told her that Abby was too big to take to school.
Sleeping kind of close to each other after playing outside for a bit. They are actually quite funny! Max growls or barks when he hears something outside--this is something we taught him to do--so she of course follows suit! Sometimes it is a little more than necessary though! haha
She has already found her spot in the house...her crate...asleep...on her own! This is a fabulous thing!!!
I saved my favorite pic of the day for last. She still looks like a little puppy in this one! She for sure has the energy and playfulness of a puppy!

She'a adorable! She looks a lot like Misha! But I'm sure she not quite the B---- that Misha is! Ha Ha! I felt so bad for Max this summer having to put up with our black B----! Looks like you've got another great dog! Hugs to all! Mom
That is a nice-looking dog. I hope it works out.
She looks adorable, congrats on the new addition. Cant wait to hear all about Abby and Max's adventures.
I assume Ethan is more interested now that she is home.
Thanks for the visit. I do appreciate it a lot.
Also, yes, it is true, it seems like both my wife and I have more to do these days than when she worked. I have been retired since 1976 (I think it was the last time I drew a paycheck.). She retired 3 or 4 years ago.
Abby is a beautiful dog, but ole Max is pretty handsome himself.
